A Chartered Waste Manager and MBA graduate, known for turning strategy into action and delivering results through culture change, digital innovation, and operational excellence.

Matt Hartley

Founder & COO

Founder of DSM and now Chief Operating Officer, Matt brings a proven track record of building and scaling high-performing operations in the recycling and waste management sector. Known for hands-on leadership, deep industry expertise, and an unwavering focus on safety, efficiency, and service excellence. Instrumental in driving the company’s growth from the ground up, Matt leads innovation across logistics, compliance, and operational delivery to enable strategic expansion and long-term sustainability.

Ian Crewe

Business Development Director

As Business Development Director, Ian leads the growth of DSM’s commercial strategy, building lasting partnerships across the recycling and waste management sector. With a strong track record in securing high-value contracts and opening new market opportunities, Ian combines industry insight with a results-driven approach. Focused on aligning customer needs with DSM’s sustainable solutions, Ian plays a key role in expanding our footprint and driving long term value for clients and stakeholders alike.

James Denton

CFO

As Chief Financial Officer, James oversees DSM’s financial strategy, governance, and performance, ensuring a strong foundation for sustainable growth. With extensive experience across corporate finance, budgeting, and investment planning, James provides the financial leadership needed to support expansion and operational excellence.

The Rt Hon Lord Michael Howard CH KC

Non-Executive Chairman

Lord (Michael) Howard of Lympne was appointed in July 2015 as a Member of the Independent Commission on Freedom of Information. He was the Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition from November 2003 to December 2005.

Lord Howard previously held Cabinet positions under the governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major, including Secretary of State for Employment (1990 to 1992), Secretary of State for the Environment (1992 to 1993) and Home Secretary (1993 to 1997).

Lord Howard was the Member of Parliament for Folkestone and Hythe from 1983 to 2010 when he retired from the House of Commons and was appointed a Life Peer. He was appointed to the Order of Companion of Honour in 2011.

He now divides his time between charity work (eg as Chairman of Hospice UK) and business, serving as Non-Executive Director on several boards.
